Well that wasn’t how we planned on spending Boxing Day, a six one defeat to Norwich City left manager Ian Holloway fuming at full time.
Speaking to the official site following the game, a very unhappy Holloway moaned.
‘There were a catalogue of errors and, if I’m being honest, it could have been a lot worse than that. There has been a shattering loss of confidence from the group. We’ve got some major surgery to do and you can’t be a Millwall player if you cannot stand up and be counted. By everybody’s standards we didn’t have the best of games and you cannot afford to do that in the Championship. It’s a ruthless level where everybody is trying to get to the top.’
The manager went on to say that for him that certainly wasn’t a true reflection of the quality we have within the group, but when you make mistakes like that in games you have to expect the opposition to punish you, and they more then ‘exploited’ the problems we were having during the game.
‘I’m trying to build a team that can sustain a run of matches at this level and actually get a run of results in a row. Unfortunately we aren’t at the moment.’
He ends his unhappy interview by assuring fans that ‘he won’t wilt’ with the challenge ahead of him, he’s going to find the players that can deal with these challenges and see us through the other side, and with 23 games left, he’s more than confident that it will turn for us and that we’ll get the points on the board that see us end the season at least near where we hope to finish to show further progression and improvement.
