Manager Neil Harris has said that Millwall getting six international call ups this October window shows just how far the club have progressed.

With George Saville, Kris Twardek and Aiden O’Brien joining up with Northern Ireland, Canada and the Republic of Ireland respectively for the first time in their careers, Conor McLaughlin and Shane Ferguson rejoin the Northern Ireland group, with Jordan Archer with Scotland, and whilst Harris knows this brings a ‘nervous’ injury aspect to the next few weeks, he’s incredibly proud of what it means for the club.

Speaking to the official site this week as he met with the press, Harris explained.

‘I think it’s not just testimony to the players, but also to myself and my staff that we’ve had six players called up for international duty. That’s based on good team performances, but also all six of them playing well individually. They all deserve it.’

‘Like all managers, I’ll be nervous about them getting injured on international duty, but when they come back, they come back on cloud nine. I’m really looking forward to them getting the opportunity to play.’

Saville came in for particular praise, even though Harris didn’t really want to pick out individuals.

‘I don’t want to single out too many individuals, but George has shown some fine form and outstanding ability since arriving back at the club in the summer. He was a bit surprised to get the call! As soon as he found out, though, he was buzzing. It’s given him a spring in his step and he’s been bouncing around, having a laugh with Conor McLaughlin and Fergie (Shane Ferguson). He’s proud, as is Aiden with his first call-up. Kris Twardek also. What an opportunity for these guys, along with Jordan once more.’

Northern Ireland face Germany on Thursday evening and then Norway the following Sunday, whilst Scotland take on Slovenia and Slovakia at the same time.

The Republic of Ireland face games against Moldova on Friday and then Wales the following Monday.

Canada take on El Salvador in a friendly on Sunday.
