Millwall have today confirmed the signing of Burton Albion midfielder Calum Butcher.

The 25 year old comes in for an undisclosed fee and he’s signed a two year deal, taking the No 16 shirt for this season.

Having come through Tottenham Hotspur’s youth ranks, he has played for Barnet, Hayes and Yeading United, Dundee United and Danish side FC Hjorring during his career so far.

He joined Burton in the summer of 2015 and made 43 appearances for them as they won promotion to the Championship this season.

Speaking to the official site after penning his new deal, Butcher explained.

‘I’m very excited. This is a massive club. As soon as the opportunity arose it was something I couldn’t turn down. I know what it takes to get out of this League and hopefully that is something I bring to the squad. There is a strong squad here with some very good players so the competition for places is there, which is what you want.’

Manager Neil Harris added about the new capture.

‘It’s been clear to see during a really busy schedule in August that we’ve been a little bit light in the middle of the park. Calum fits the bill for us. He’s a 6’1′, modern day no-nonsense central midfield player who is good at 50-50s on the ground and in the air. He also breaks forward really well and scored five goals for Burton last year in a promotion-winning season so we are really pleased to get him on board.’
