Ben May marked his return to action with a goal as Millwall strolled into the third round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Marvin Williams opened the scoring in the first half and May scored just two minutes after coming on at the interval to seal a relatively easy win for Willie Donachie’s side.

The only downside for caretaker boss Donachie were injuries to Tony Craig and Samy Mawene that leave the duo doubtful for Friday’s match at Tranmere.

Craig looked to have suffered a dislocated shoulder, while French midfielder Mawene limped off with a knock.

Williams struck for the Lions in the 20th minute when he controlled Chris Zebroksi’s cross, tricked his marker and drove a low shot past Neil Moss.

May, making his first appearance of the season, added the second in the 47th minute when he headed home from Filipe Morais’s corner.

May and Mawene both had chances to increase Millwall’s lead, while Lenny Pidgeley twice denied Darren Anderton with fine stops.

Teams:

Pidgeley; Senda, Bakayogo, Grant, Craig (Elliott 25), Shaw (Robinson, 46), Hackett, Mawene, Williams, Zebroski (May 46), Morais.

Moss; Young, Purches, Best, Hollands, Hayter, Gowling, Hart, Ainsworth (Foley 54), Anderton, Cummings (Songo’o 46)
