Defender Mark Beevers has said that Millwall are benefiting from the work we have put in on the training ground when it comes to set pieces, but over the coming weeks he’s hoping for an even greater return during games.
Speaking to the official site ahead of the game against Swindon Town this weekend, Beevers talked of the benefits of our training pitch work and how he hoped that it would contribute to a better goal return for him this year.
He has already scored three goals in 2015-16 and that equals his career best in a season so far, and obviously all of them have come from dead ball situations.
‘Last season we struggled to find the net from set-pieces at all. During pre-season the gaffer spoke a lot about how important creating and scoring from free-kicks and corners would be for us. It is something we work on quite a bit, and fortunately so far that is paying off.’
With Millwall scoring a total of six so far this campaign, the work is certainly paying off for us, and the 25 year old hopes set pieces will help us return to winning ways in the league following the defeat to Peterborough at the last time of asking.
Taking the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy win has however helped confidence on that score.
‘If you look at the League table you can see how tight things are, and we know that if we can string a few wins together we can be right up there fighting for a position in the top six. Up until the last match we had begun to show a lot more consistency and now after the international break we’re aiming to get on another run. With no game last weekend we had more time to analyse things and work on the training ground, which we also did during the previous break and showed a real improvement as a result. The season still has a long, long way to go, and we genuinely believe that we will continue to improve as we go along.’
