Midfielder Nicky Bailey has suffered a fresh injury blow and has now been ruled out until after the next international break.

Having already been sidelined with injury, Bailey was making his return to the pitch in our game against Huddersfield last Saturday, but he has now sustained a torn calf muscle.

Speaking to the official site physio Bobby Bacic admitted that it was an unfortunate injury, especially as Nicky had injured his calf in a freak accident when we faced RCD Mallorca in pre season as well.

Explaining the unavoidable nature of injuries sometimes, Bacic pointed to Carlos Edwards and the problem he sustained in the Nottingham Forest game as proof that even the best prevention can’t always help.

‘Carlos previously had no problems with his right knee and on our testing during the last international break he recorded very quick times in the sprints, placing him in the top three at the club. He was in good shape leading up to the Forest match when, out of the blue, he sustained the injury when his knee hyperextended. Carlos is now starting the early steps after surgery and will spend the next six weeks in a brace and on crutches.’

Moving on more specifically to Bailey, Bacic says it was a very similar build up because he went into the Huddersfield game feeling good, and his calf hadn’t proven to be an issue or even a worry over training and the U21 game he took in.

‘Like Carlos, Nicky managed to ‘luck out’ and catch his studs in the turf and also hyperextended his knee and sustained an injury, but obviously not as serious as Carlos’.

Bacic gets all technical and explains that Bailey has a fresh tear to his right gastroc calf muscle ‘which has an action in flexing the knee’ – translates as he’s crocked for a bit.

The tear is small though and he’s expected back in training after the international break so it’s not a long term problem.

Lee Martin is also back in straight line running and light training now following his knee ligament injury, and new signing Angel Martinez also has a torn calf and he’s in the early stages of rehab himself.
