Yesterday, goalkeeper Jordan Archer put pen to paper on a new deal at Millwall seeing him tied to the club until the summer of 2019.
The 23 year old joined us from Tottenham Hotspur back in June 2015 and having firmly established himself as our number 1, he now has 56 appearances to his name for the club.
Last season he picked up the Players’ Player of the Year award for his performance and he has helped us to three League One wins from five so far this campaign.
Speaking to the official site after penning his deal, the goalkeeper explained.
‘I’m delighted. I’ve always stated that I’m happy to stay at this great club. The fans have really taken to me and it’s exciting to be part of the group of young players who are coming through. There is some experience in the squad too and we’ve got great coaches who I enjoy working with on a day-to-day basis. The manager has shown great faith in me since the day I signed so I have to thank him. Hopefully I can continue to repay the backing he has given me.’
Manager Neil Harris said of his extension.
‘Jordan has been exceptional. He’s still a young man but is very driven and has a big future in front of him at this football club. It was imperative that we tied Jordan down to a longer contract. Since he came into the team he has really put his stamp down on the goalkeeper position having had to fight tooth and nail with David Forde for the number one shirt. I’m delighted to have secured his signature, which is a sign of the club’s ambition because he has been attracting interest from elsewhere. Credit must go to the chairman for doing all he can to keep this group of young, talented players together in order to help the team continue its development under my stewardship.’
