With midfielder Jimmy Abdou penning a new two year extension yesterday, he has spoken of his pleasure at getting it all sown up ahead of the new campaign.

Signing on until at least the summer of 2017, the 30 year old explained that he was pleased to extend his nine year association with the club because he really feels settled with us and after a disappointing year last year with relegation to League One he’s hoping to play his part in helping us battle back to the Championship at the first time of asking under newish manager Neil Harris.

Speaking to the official site he explained.

‘I’m happy to sign a new contract for Millwall. I have been here for a long time. Me and my family are really pleased to get it sorted out and I can focus on the new season.’

With the new campaign on the horizon now with fixtures released tomorrow, he went on to say.

‘We saw at the end of last season how the fans were really behind us and everyone is ready now. We want to push forward and see how we get on. I have a good relationship with Neil Harris and am looking forward to continue working with him.’

Building on his words from last night, manager Neil Harris added in a new interview.

‘Jimmy’s strengths are vital, especially if you’re playing in a two-man midfield. He picks and chooses when to go and when to stay and sometimes you need that experience. The beauty of Jimmy’s game is that he can cover ground quickly, whether that is getting forward in the box or tracking back and covering others. Jimmy understands what it takes to play in a midfield pair and he is adaptable, which is so pleasing from my point of view. If somebody wants to sit deep then Jimmy can run on, but if he is with a partner who likes to get in the box then he can be the one who plays deeper and helps to shield the backline.’
