Willie Donachie is trying to make a deal with Swansea to sign their out-of-favour striker Leon Knight.

Lions caretaker boss Donachie is keen to bring in another forward as Ipswich youngster Danny Haynes’ loan spell expired after Sunday’s match at Swansea.

With uncertainty surrounding the fitness of Darren Byfield and Ben May also ruled out for several months, Millwall are short of strikers.

So a move for former Brighton star Knight would make sense and Donachie has admitted he spoke to Swansea boss Kenny Jackett about the player on Sunday.

But the transfer is still far from certain to go through because Swansea are keen to agree a deal which ensures they are paid £125,000 to complete a permanent switch when the window opens in January.

Donachie insisted Millwall do not have the cash to buy Knight and he told the SLP: ‘Any fee would rule us out.

‘Leon could get us goals, though. He’s a dangerous forward and a good player.’

Another concern would be over Knight’s attitude as he has already fallen out with Brighton and now Swansea in the space of a few months over his lack of commitment to the cause.

But with a relegation battle looming large for the Lions it might well be worth taking a gamble on a player who has been prolific at this level and helped Swansea reach the play-off final last season.
